Compassionate Dental Care for Pets

Animals, like people, require proper oral hygiene for a long and healthy life, and MarketPlace Veterinary Hospital offers the best in dental cleaning and client education for a full range of dental services for your pet.

Non-Anesthesia Dental Care

MarketPlace Veterinary Hospital is one of the only facilities in the region performing non-anesthesia dental care. We are pleased to offer this service through Animal Dental Care (ADC). ADC works with your animal here in our hospital for your pet’s comfort and your convenience. Below is a description of this service:

At Animal Dental Care (ADC), we provide anesthesia-free dental care to dogs and cats through licensed veterinary facilities throughout California. Our vision in the animal health care profession is to provide our existing clients with the best possible oral care for their pets and to help educate pet owners on how good dental care contributes to the overall good health of our pets.

Our proprietary seven-step professional teeth cleaning is performed without the use of anesthesia, which also offers pet owners an alternative method for cleaning and maintaining their pet’s teeth.

Home Dental Care

Brushing your pet’s teeth is the best way to ward off dental disease. Some pets resist brushing, but most can be trained to accept it. It is best to begin when your pet is young and has mastered eating solid foods. Brushing at least three times a week is the minimum and, like humans, daily is best!

ADC offers these easy guidelines for home dental care:

Step 1: Choose a toothpaste your pet likes (don’t use human toothpaste or toothbrushes on your pet. Human toothpaste may be toxic in pets if ingested, and human toothbrushes are usually too big for their mouths). Place a small amount of toothpaste on your finger and offer it to your pet daily for several days as a reward or treat. This will condition your pet to view brushing as fun and rewarding. Once your pet accepts toothpaste as a reward, use your index finger to stimulate the brushing motion of a toothbrush, while praising the pet and giving the daily dose of flavored toothpaste.

Step 2: In 5-7 days, introduce a soft bristled pet toothbrush. You can apply a small bit of the flavored toothpaste at the beginning and end to reinforce the conditioned behavior, position the brush at a 45-degree angle to the tooth. Make small circular motions beginning at the back of the pet’s teeth moving forward and around to the other side. Eight to ten strokes are sufficient for any given area.
