Optimal Treatment for Senior Pets
Most pets are considered “senior” by age 7 or 8, and yet many do not receive the minimum health screenings recommended by veterinarians. At MarketPlace Veterinary Hospital, your aging companion receives optimal care, promoting longevity and an enhanced quality of life.
There are a variety of conditions and diseases senior pets can face, including weight gain and mobility changes, osteoarthritis, cancer, diabetes, and thyroid imbalance, as well as kidney, heart, and liver disease. For early diagnosis and treatment of such concerns, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) recommends a complete exam and laboratory testing every 6 months for healthy senior dogs and cats. Understand that every year of a dog or cat’s life is equivalent to 5-7 human years. To stay current with your senior pet’s health care, twice-a-year exams are a must. Visit our Wellness page for a detailed description of these in-depth exams and laboratory tests.
At MarketPlace, we counsel and assist you in developing your end-of-life care plan for your pet. Whether you plan to provide a painless natural passing or your pet requires euthanasia, we are here to support and guide you. For many, this may mean “in-home” euthanasia, a service we provide when the need arises. Plans must be arranged ahead of time to accommodate the veterinarian’s busy work schedule. Usually, we can arrive in the early evening when family members are home. If you choose, your pet may then be taken back to the hospital for care of the remains. Whatever your needs and wishes, we give The Best of Care for Your Best Friend.
